The acting was top-notch by little-known actors (at least here in the U. ) and it was very refreshing to see some new faces of superb talent. The direction was spot-on. The editing was flawless. The pace of this movie keeps you glued to your screen with unexpected turns around every corner. This is a brutal movie (strong sex, violence, drug misuse, language) but flows beautifully from scene to scene. It is also very personal and emotional between the characters. So, if you love films of this genre, do not miss this one - you won't regret it! A lot of attention to detail went into this movie and the result is outstanding! One of the best mob movies ever made, though its excellence isn't just limited to the genre by far. The Amazon description says it will only play on a "Region B" player. It will play on both Region A and Region B players - though I do not know if it will play on a "Region C" player. I tested this disc out on my U. S. "Region A" PS3 player and it played just fine. The audio is only in Italian - DTS-HD MA 5. 1 - or - LPCM 2. 0. Also, "English" subtitles are available on this disc. The Aspect Ratio is 16:9. As to the movie, this has become one of my favorites. I had not even heard of this movie until I happened across it on an online streaming service. I was immediately hooked and just had to have a copy for myself on blu-ray. This is everything one wants in a good crime thriller movie. The cinematography throughout was beautifully done.

The bill has to be approved by the Italian parliament which is not oblivious to external influences such as the mafia or rich businessmen. The notion of corruption is omnipresent throughout the movie, leading to crucial questions regarding the Italian political life. The first forty-five minutes of the movie is a bit confusing as the viewers introduced to a multitude of characters with no obvious connection between them. The story covers a time span of one week, in the form of a countdown to the day of the ''Apocalypse'' which is also the finale of the film. The plot is even-paced reaching a bloody, nevertheless redeeming, finale with a high body count. The performances from all the actors in a movie that has no central character are top-notch while the direction by Stefano Sollima offers many moments of true artistic beauty in the beautiful Roman setting. It should be also noted that ''Suburra'' has a captivating soundtrack which suits the atmosphere of the film and that a tv series under the same title began in 2017.

The mafia groups and their political frontman have a difficult mission to get the relevant budget enacted before the government falls. But into that plot line strays the fatal consequences of the sexual games of the politician, a couple of prostitutes, a family of gypsy money-lenders and heavies, an indebted pimp, an Ostia gangster and his "moll", and a great deal more. In each case coincidence increases the volatility of the situation, and disloyalty becomes commonplace. It spins up at an increasing rate (and I'll be watching it again to check some links). The denouement is not at all what I expected. The same feel as Gomorra but with only two hours the plot needs to kick on, as it does.
